Staying Fit on Vacation

Updated: Jan 2

Summer's here everyone! Vacations are a well-deserved break from those long work/school days and our stressful daily routines. However, this is no means to abandon fitness. Beautiful white sand beaches, backyard cookouts, and many temptations divert us from our fit lifestyles. So, how do you stay consistent while away?

  1. Hotel Gyms

The most obvious answer here is to use a hotel or resort gym. Nowadays, many hotel chains have some sort of fitness center. Many have more advanced gyms and even classes to rival your workouts!

Modify the workouts that you normally do to fit the equipment you have. No weights at all? Body weight exercises focusing on control and higher repetitions can be an amazing replacement for most people's everyday routines.

2. Swimming

No time for the gym? Don't have access to equipment? Fear not! Going for a swim is an excellent option for aerobic exercise. Most hotels come with pools. Take advantage and go for a few laps around the pool or dive into the ocean.

Swimming burns approximately 400 calories per hour (for an average 160-180lb person). It's great for low-impact cardio, meaning there isn't much joint stress while you exercising. Grab a pair of trunks and start swimming! you

3. Active Activities

No gym or pool? Well, planning activities that are physically demanding is another strategy for staying fit while away. Spend your day moving around, exploring local attractions such as hikes, scuba diving, canoeing, or kayaking. Many destinations around the world offer such activities. Hawaii, Switzerland, and France all have amazing hikes and bike trails for tourists of all kinds.

Be sure with all that movement to stay energized with quick snacks! Low-sugar protein bars or shakes always come in handy. Fruits and nuts are great quick energy-packed snacks to get you through any activity!

The Verdict

Vacations are our way of escaping the normal routine. Everyone needs to get away for a change of scenery. When we do, our goals are still there to keep us consistent. It's extremely difficult to prioritize fitness on your vacations but if you're serious about the goals you have, these tips are a great way to stay active and have fun while doing it.

Take care, everyone!
